So how does it work, exactly?
Overview
Cibecs was designed to simplify backing up desktops and notebook computers in large organizations. Cibecs can be centrally managed from the Control Center which means no more running around to make sure that your users are protected from data loss.
Here's how simple it is to get Cibecs implemented in your organization:- Install the Continuity Server software and activate your license.
- Select your backup groups and users from your Active Directory Domain (you can also use Cibecs in standalone mode if you do not have Active Directory).
- Define a backup policy which controls all aspects of backups including what data to include and exclude from backup as well as when users should backup.
- Deploy the User Agents silently and automatically. The User Agent is automatically installed in the background through Active Directory Integration.
- Backups are automated and transparent to the users and happen while your users continue to work.
- Report on your backup compliance and see which users are protected and which are unprotected.
Central Management
- Centrally define backup policies that control all aspects of backups including backup selection, scheduling and settings (such as throttling, transparency and more).
- Cibecs integrates with Active Directory, meaning that you can seamlessly deploy Cibecs to your existing users without them having to do anything.
Automated, transparent backups
- Backups are performed daily without any user intervention.
- Backups only take a couple of seconds to a couple of minutes, and are performed in the background while the user works, ensuring no productivity loss.
Open file support ensures that files are backed up, even while the user is working on it. This is especially important for data such as Email.
All files (to be backed up) will be automatically identified no matter where they are stored. This enables the user to continue working as they have in the past. - Disk and processor throttling ensures that impact on the user’s computer is minimal.
Fast, easy recovery
-
Data is recovered in three easy wizard driven steps:
- Select the date from which the data must be recovered
- Select the file/s, folder/s or “all data” to recover
- Select where to recover the data to
-
Data is automatically restored to the the same structure as it was when backed up.
-
Recovery is lightning fast and assists in:
-
Recovering lost data when a device is lost or stolen
- Supporting users during normal support operations, such as replacing a corrupted file
- Achieving massive time and cost reductions when replacing desktop or notebook computers.
-
Monitoring and reporting
-
A variety of reports are available from the Control Center. These reports can be created and viewed from any location. Reporting functionality include the ability to pull Exception Reports based on user activity e.g. “Show all users who have not backed up in the
last 7 days”.Management reports form a key part to the reporting engine and reports, such as the single page “System Summary report”, can be generated to provide management information.
Security
-
All data is encrypted using 448bit Blowfish encryption in CBC mode before leaving the user’s computer.
-
User data is never decrypted on the server and IT staff will not have access to the user’s data, unless they have access into the Encryption Key Safe.
All data is securely transferred using a 128bit SSL connection with 1024bit key exchange.
Network and storage requirements
- Daily backups are done using patch technology. This means that only changes within documents are backed up, which greatly reduces data volumes. This allows large backups to be completed in a matter of seconds, as only a couple of Kilobytes or Megabytes are actually being backed up at a time.
- This technology, in conjunction with the compression technology used for all backed up data, significantly reduces the storage requirements.
- With only business critical data stored on the server no storage space is wasted and current storage is optimized.
